GAME plan - Week 5
Well progress was made this week. I have Facebook all set up and have found two groups that may be helpful in learning about more technology. It was unfortunate that I couldn't find anything that was Home Ec or Family and Consumer Science based. I have completed the Blogs for my classes that I wanted to set up. I now have to instruct my students on how to become a member of the blog and appropriate posts for the site. I have discovered teachers who have a blog the students are to participate in and the students do not. The students do not know how to set up a sign in on the site, let along participate on the blog. We will take it slow and start from square one. I have to become a little more familiar with the set up of Ning because I have now become use to Blogspot because this class. Blogspot is blocked from student use. Have a productive teaching week.

I like the idea of setting up a class blog for students to respond to questions posted by the teacher or as a discussion forum where students can interact with each other about educational topics. I would like to set something up so that after reading a story or piece of literature my students could respond to it via a blog. The students could then dialogue with one another about it. Like you, I feel that setting up a blog would be starting at square one with my students. Many of my students do not even have a computer at home so this would present a challenge. Because of the age of my students I would also need permission slips from all of my students before proeceeding. Good luck as you implement your blog into you classroom.
I like the idea of a student blog for the class. I also agree with how you plan to take it slow to teach them.
I remember a program (Jing) we used to make screen captures in a previous class. This might work for you to demonstrate "how to sign up". If you record the screen actions with something like Jing you can them send the kids a link to the clip as a demonstration. They can watch it as many times as needed to achieve the process.
Good Luck - I look forward to more news of your sucesses. Nicole
Cindy,
Good job setting up the blogs for your class! Using this type of technology is a big step into your evolution as a teacher. I yet need to learn how to do something like that in my class. Do you have any ideas how you want to use your blog? Would you post a question so that your students start a thread? Or perhaps would they discuss an assignment? I haven’t use Nig before so I can’t really contribute any suggestions to help you get things done easier. Most programs that serve the same purposes work similar but it might take a while to learn the “other” ways. I like Blogspot.com because it is a user friendly program with better features than the other programs, it is a shame it is blocked in your district. Using blogging will provide your students with the skills that are needed in today’s digital society. They will learn valuable skills that will help them communicate in a different way with their peers Good luck!

I like your idea of setting up a blog for your class. I also think it is a great idea to take it slow with your students so that you can walk through each step of the process with them. I think this will lead to a greater percentage of participation. Let me know how it goes. I just might have to steal your idea.
